Chicago is one of Broadway’s longest running musicals, showing at the Ambassador Theatre, 219 W 49th street between Broadway and 8th Avenue. We purchased tickets for $96 at www.ChicagoMusicalTickets.com we were seated in the Orchestra-section, 4 rows back, great seats! The overall feeling of the set and costumes is one a dark and seedy world. A contrast between the cold prison where Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart are being held on charges of murder, to the hot flesh-baring costumes of the chorus dancers. The sultry music and fishnet bodysuits draw you into the Chicago underworld, where the written word is ultimate truth and the women will do whatever they can to gain celebrity. Seduced by gyrating hips, and rippling muscles, if you can manage to tear your eyes away, you might notice that the stage is distinctly different than other musicals. Instead of hidden away in the pit, the band is seated in a bandstand where the musicians are front and centre. Music and dance is integrated in every scene, drawing the audience in, finger-snapping and toe-tapping. If you are looking for something to do in the Big Apple, Chicago is a great show!
